Country singer/songwriter Macelyn Batten is a new flame in the NC/SC music scene. Known for her powerhouse vocals and sweet, blues-infused southern twang, she quickly catches the eyes and ears of ANY audience-- from intimate writer's rounds to larger high-energy venues. If you’re looking for a show that spans the sounds of the Texas honky tonks to the neon lights of Nashville, she’s the one. A southeastern North Carolina native, Batten was inspired by classic country artists like Patsy Cline, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Kris Kristofferson, Loretta Lynn and Hank Williams Sr at an early age. While her love for country music has persisted, she has found intimate connections to artists of other genres, like Bob Dylan, John Prine, Etta James and Otis Redding. Don't be fooled though, she can throw a mean country dance party with playlists full of artists like Ella Langley, Gretchen Wilson, Miranda Lambert, Toby Keith, Alan Jackson, and Garth Brooks.

Although a newcomer to the Charleston music scene, Batten has performed at a number of local and regional venues including Charleston’s own Windjammer, Red's Ice House, Saltwater Cowboy's on Shem Creek, Frontier Lounge, Uptown Social, Prohibition, Share House, The Harlow, Estuary Brewing Company, Rita's on Folly Beach, Chico Feo on Folly Beach and others. She recently even took a chance at booking Raleigh, NC’s largest honky tonk, The Whiskey Rose, and was later locked in for two additional dates this year. She currently holds weekly residencies at both Frontier Lounge and Estuary Brewing, and a bi-weekly residency at The Harlow— all in the Charleston area.

Since starting out in the music scene in November of 2023, Batten has been heavily influenced by the talented artists she has been able to work with. As such, she has started to curate her own original work, which was recently showcased at the Chico Feo Soapbox on Folly Beach. She is planning to record and release her first EP in 2025 with the help of local Charleston producer, Wolfgang Zimmerman.
